INDIA : THE NORTH, LADAKH AND RAJASTHAN
I First visited the Indian Sub Continent in 1993 as part of a trekking and mountaineering expedition to climb the 6000 metre Peak of Stok Kangri. The trek was 21days in the spectacular Landscapes of Ladakh. I continued my journey to by train to the magical land of Rajasthan. Overpowering; hot a sometimes uncomfortable; India polorises opinions: you love it or hate it. I come into the first category and my images reflect that.
These images date well before the days before digital. 30 rolls of slide film in a lead bag to guard against airport Xrays, meant an average of 18 shots per day on a 6 week trip. One needed to be very careful on subject matter and no preview of the images until a week after my return.

Ladakh, trek and climb of the 6121 metre peak of Stok Kangri
The Trek and climb of Stok Kangri passed through an incredible high dessert and inhospitable landscape. Ant trekking can only be done for a few summer months. At more than 3000m the valleys are extremely cold and even in high summer nights at altitude can be freezing. On the morning of the final summit ascent it was -20oC.
A brief selection of images from Rajasthan
I only have a limited number of images from Rajasthan; may of the slides I had were lost or damages; but here is a sample from Jodphur, Jaipur and Jaisalmer. The desert fortress of Jaislamer too two days my train to reach. It was an amazing experience and one I'd want to repeat somtime.
