India Pushkar Fair THE PUSHKAR FAIR TOUR
I am coming briefly out of retirement to run a small group tour for friends, photographers and Previous Peace Of Angkor Tour Clients, This tour will be based around the Pushkar Camel Fair in Rajasthan. It was a fabulous experience culturally and photographically when I was there in November 2024. For those unable to join you will find the photos and video links well worth watching Images from the 2024 Pushkar Camel FairPushkar is more than Camels Horse trading is a major part of the scene here. You will see musicians, dancers, snake charmers fire eaters and other entertainments even a moustache competition. In the town you will see culture shows, music concerts fair grounds and Indians partying. The festivities go on for a 5 days finishing with a spectacular religious festival on the lakeshore.
Tour Plan (subject to amendment)The general plans is to start from New Delhi and head to Fatepur Sikri the ancient abandoned city. We will be doing much more than that. You will have a unique experience visiting parts of the city few mainstream tourists get to. The emphasis is of meeting the lovely villagers in their workplaces and homes to get a taste of the “Real India”
For Wildlife photographer the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is a paradise for water birds We move on to Jaipur and the famous Palace of the Winds and Pink City. The Janta Mantar observatory built by Jai Singh in is a masterpiece of time engineering. From Jaipur we visit Bikaner where we plan to stay in a beautiful Haveli or Mansion. Bikaner is not a tourist oriented city. Its a workaday place with proper markets and few souvenir stalls or many hotels or cafes. The City is a fascinating place of atmosphere with impressive fortifications. Its great for people photography on the streets and markets. Nearby is the unique Shree Karni Mata Jain Temple known for the worship of rats. We move on to the beautiful town of Pushkar which is a gorgeous location surrounded be hills and the lake. We will stay in a gorgeous small guest house which is full of character. The Pushkar Camel Fair in the dunes outside the town, is one of the most photogenic environments I have had the pleasure of visiting in my extensive travels in India.
